ANSWERS

Last post I asked four simple questions.

>What does the gospel of John 3:16 say
>Who said it
>What does it mean
>What is the gospel (chapter and verse).

The reason I have asked these questions is because over the years I have observed first hand the decline in the spiritual temperature of the church. Meaning the understanding of scripture is a lost art.

I get a lot of belching of verses to defend some dogma not related to the gospel, which is the lamp to our feet, and lights the path to salvation. If we do not understand the very basics, the milk of the word, how can we walk in the paths of righteousness? How can we truly obtain to salvation?

I am going to answer these questions. If you have not read the original post, go to it now then come back and read the answers. https://preparinganarkii.wordpress.com/2015/01/04/what-is-the-gospel/
I truly believe if you understand where you stand in your basic knowledge of the gospel you will be better off. We are warned to be proficient in the word.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2Ti 2:15
In the very next verse, Paul admonishes: But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
2Ti 2:16

The point here is that arguments tend towards “babbling.” In other words, arguments of things not relevant to salvation or the gospel, i.e. the nature of the “Godhead,” the “essence of Christ,” et al lead to division and confusion. God will reveal himself to us as he sees fit. Now these subjects may be interesting or have some small measure of merit, however, focusing on these topics tends to division and takes away from the weightier matters of study and understanding the gospel and Godly living. These topics became the object of maximum debate in the early history of the church soon after the Judaism movement promoted by the Pharisees which had “converted”. We even see this today, where a so called true believer must dress like a “Jew” act like a “Jew” and worship like a “Jew.” The Messianic movement is driven by the modern day Pharisee.  I will address this issue at a later time.
There are even those who rail against the Pharisaic rituals in the Messianic movement, yet have their own “Jewish” customs. Brothers and sisters, those of us who are Gentiles, are under N O obligation to become Jewish.

I had a friend who has become so wrapped up in this movement, he wears all the garb of the Pharisee and teaches as does the Rabbi in a synagogue. Back in the day, we both were in the ministry together. He has a very large following, in the thousands. I do not, and I don’t care. My ministry is to teach truth and to help the needy, and I do that.
I have observed that if you want a large following and make a lot of money, all you have to do is promote the latest and greatest dogma and advertise on facebook, put up a website hawking someones books and salt it with one or two of your own, vomiting out the same dogma. I refuse to prostitute myself. If I live in rags, then better to live poor in this world then obtain riches with my precious Lord.

ANSWERS

1.John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
*Emphasis mine.

2.Jesus. He was speaking to Nicodemus.

3.The following verses which Jesus speaks gives us a hint into the meaning of the verse in question.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of *the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
John 3:17-21

*Many new translations have changed the wording here or eliminated it all together.

4.Meaning. These verses ARE the cornerstone of the gospel. This is the fulfillment of the promise given to our mother Eve by God as he spoke to the serpent:
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Gen 3:15

5.What is the gospel? Remember I needed chapter and verse which clearly states it.
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received,

>how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
>And that he was buried,
>and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1Co 15:1-4
*Emphasis mine.

Now, here is the final exam questions.

Do we obey the gospel? Chapter and verse.

Explain your answer.

Carefully consider your answer. Do NOT parrot some teaching from what you have heard.
Look to the scriptures. What does the bible say?

Do you understand the gospel? Where does it come from? In other words, what is its ancestry?

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL

I have been out of the loop for a while now. Work, then a host of things. I’m juggling and fumbling, well not to much. I want to change it up a bit and get back to bible basics. I’ve been in ministry of some sort for about 28 years and I have watched the trends of the church. I’m an analyst. I study and ponder a lot concerning what I see and hear from the pulpit and the pew. I’ve been concerned for the church for all 28 of the years I’ve been in ministry. In this post I am going to stir it up. And with the follow up post, some may take a hammer to their pc’s. LOL. But hey, I gotta do this. I’m from “Dixie” and I push the envelop, (just the bit of Dennis the Menace in me).

To be serious now, I want to address something I have observed for many years. Lets get into it. Buckle up.

Over the years, (34) I have searched the scriptures for the truth of the gospel. What is the gospel? I just want one scripture that tells me point blank what it is. When I ask or listen to someone speak on “what is the gospel” I get the obligatory, “it is the good news of Jesus Christ.” That doesn’t tell me anything. Sometimes I wonder if the one talking, doesn’t know themselves and is just spouting what they were told. I find a lot of that when discussing doctrine with people. They tend to regurgitate what they heard from the pulpit and they are doing the same, regurgitating what they learned in seminary.

I find most people who study the bible, put on the filters of what they were taught from someone else and don’t really read the bible. Let me explain. In the days of Jesus, the doctrines of the Pharisee’s had overtaken the religious life of the people to the extent that when Jesus came teaching truth, it was foreign to them. “Never spoke a man like this.” They were stunned by his words, the doctrines of men had totally taken control and truth was a foreign thing.

It is this way today, as I travel and ask questions I find an appalling lack of knowledge concerning truth. I have asked many many people what the gospel is, a very fundamental question and I get the same answer as above. They truly do not know.

The following is a test.

I am going to ask 4 very simple questions and I don’t want you to so much as touch the bible to look for answers. Lets find out just what is your spiritual temperature. You need to know this for your own benefit.

Ok here we go.

Be honest don’t look it up, write these down

Maybe even discuss this with your family and or friends.

1.Quote out loud the gospel of John 3:16.

2.Who said it.

3.What does it mean

4.What is the gospel (Give me chapter and verse).

Here’s the deal, miss just one question, you fail.(don’t worry, I have asked this same set of questions of PHD’s and they couldn’t answer any but the first one, Yes really). Each question  carries a world of weight, each is just that important. If we miss one, we miss everything. Yes, I’m serious. Next post, I will give the answers. The church has been inundated with half truths and fables for far to long. We have not heard the truth.

O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
Jer 16:19
